I’m putting ‘the finishing touches’ to Under The Whale’s Tongue (I have been putting the finishing touches to it for about three years) but I’m mulling over other projects already.
I like to make stuff in bulks. I’ve ‘released’ two EPs so far, online and for free, but most musicians like me seem to release more single tracks online. I don’t really want to do this, for two reasons: single tracks seem to get lost amongst other stuff (my EPs seem to garner more attention) and when I finish an EP it’s a body of work; something more substantial, like a complete novel or an anthology of short stories.
My forthcoming EP has a particular theme - the sea. I want a lot of the tracks to sound water-based and blend with each other. That didn’t happen so much with my last EP, Colourfish, which was more of a patchwork of eclectic tracks, but even still, they all blended well. I take time to make sure my EPs are tracklisted right. Like a mixtape, it’s like a mad science.
An frustrating thing about making only albums is I sometimes make songs that don’t fit with the rest. A track I made ages ago - We Buy Balloons - doesn’t seem the fit amongst the analogue, warm sounds of Whale’s Tongue, and I don’t really have anywhere for it to go now. Maybe I’ll plonk it on a mini-EP or something.
I’m rambling. I need to write more. Bye!
